Lucas Silva grew up in a locksmith's shop where he swept the floor, and by eleven could open any lock in the street with a bent wire. His teacher told him it was a talent only for those who respect what they open. Lucas took that seriously: he has never opened a lock he was not invited to. He is short, cheerful and carries an oversized brass key on his belt as a joke that became a trademark. In the Harbor Years he was famous for opening a chest the dockmaster had lost the key to, three minutes before an audit. The Old Man liked him because he asked what was inside only after the work was done. Lucas treats every vault as a conversation, with a beginning, a polite middle and a quiet end. He is also, according to the crew, the best at cards, which he never plays.
“No lock has ever insulted me twice.”
