Story
The Pianist
Céline arrived in Port Vesper as a pianist. She played the smaller halls first, and listened more than she played. Families came to hear the music. She learned the room by its silences before she learned its names. They stayed because the room felt safe. She noticed which doors they watched.
Three Rules
She opened her own salon with three rules on a small card by the door. No weapons. No raised voices. No unfinished sentences. A silver bowl by the door keeps everyone's phone. The only decoration is a clock set five minutes slow, so nobody leaves in a hurry. The card has never been broken. She does not take sides. She takes notes.
The Tea Table
Families ended feuds across her tea table. Some had cost a dozen funerals. She poured, listened and let the notes do the work. The Old Man said she could have run the Grand Table. She did not want the noise. She wanted the truth, and the forgiveness after.
The Closed Lid
Her Letter arrived on the one night in a decade the salon was empty. She set it on the piano and read it twice. She closed the lid. The next morning she opened the doors a little earlier than usual. She has never taken the Grand Table, and she has never been far from it. "Every war is a conversation that ran out of chairs."
